Fighting a war for millions of years isn't cheap, so you can't fault Optimus Prime for trying to offset the costs by taking on a sponsor. It's not the most desirable solution, but it could've been worse; Motormaster's tooling around with a big ol' Preparation H ad on his trailer. I always thought Pepsi Prime was a great repaint/ rebrand. The JP version with the different bottle holder is damn cool as well.
