If you are a hardcore TF collector (I used to be) and literally will buy ANYTHING related to Transformers, this thread is for you. Basically a place to post those strange "Artifact" type things so other collectors may be interested in.

And this thread is brought to you buy Kraft Foods, which apparently has teamed up with Hasbro for a sweepstakes. I bought a 2.9OZ Lunchables (Turkey & American, although there was a Ham option too) food product. The front has a logo for "Never be bored again." On the back, among other Hasbro staples such as Nerf and Sorry! is the Transformers Prime logo!

Going to http://lunchables.com/kids you can see a list of prizes. Apparently, there are 1,000,000 last place prizes in which you can choose to download a Transformers Prime video... ***yawn***

Help Us Build the Database / What is Transformers 2010?
December 04, 2012, 07:12:49 AM
Yesterday I tried to modify a record for Steeljaw because I noticed it was listed in the Transformers 2010 category.
http://www.shmax.com/product_details/2168/steeljaw

There is a problem with this category because in the US section, Transformers (2010) is a category for predominantly "Universe" type releases. Now I realised after the fact that the main difference is that the US category has the parentheses.

Transformers 2010, or Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformer 2010 is the name of the 3rd TF cartoon season as it was released in Japan. But as far as the toys go, unlike the Scramble City, Headmasters, etc, 2010 is not actually reflected on the package.

So my vote is to consider taking the items that are in the Transformers 2010 category and just put them in Transformers, especially to make sure there isn't a confusion with the similarly titled category that appears for other countries. My attempt was Transformers > Japan > Generation 1 > Cybertrons.

What are your thoughts?

As above, how far can we go with merchandise? We already have board games, puzzles, suckers, candles... what about going into media items? I also collect books, comics, video games and also VHS/DVDs. Should I bother adding my video collection into here? Or do you think we should stick to toys until some point in the future?

Ran into a problem adding a record. I sent a PM to engledogg about it already, so I'll add a feature request.

When adding a product where no applicable sub-category already exists, we can choose to suggest one. But if there should be an additional sub-category after that, there is no way to suggest that.

As an example, I added a board game that was released in Brazil. Currently, G1 is the only sub-category for Brazil. So I added a suggestion sub-category of "Transformers (2007 Movie)". Now that isn't where the item should end up. Ideally, I wanted to suggestion a sub-category of that to be "Merchandise" but there is not a prompt to create an additional sub-category to place the item.

I've just learned that Estrela was at least alive and well around the time Armada toys were being made. I've come across this example of the Sea Minicon Team:
http://bimg2.mlstatic.com/transformers-armada-estrela-lacrado-no-perca_MLB-F-205402362_6131.jpg
Related US record:
http://www.shmax.com/product_details/736/sea_mini_con_team

The quality of the image is lacking considerably, but I am wondering if it is worth creating an Armada Brazil section? For example, I know it was brought up before that we wouldn't add Classic Throttlebots from Portugal because they are just UK Classics with a Portugese sticker on the back of the package. In this Sea Minicon Team example, it *looks* like the difference is that the Estrela logo (and ISO information) on the front may be a sticker. Would this fall under the same category as the Throttlebot, or could this be something we could add?

Here's a Beast Machines Quickstrike.

Is it possible to integrate forum accounts with site accounts a little more? For example, If i go to someone's forum profile, it might be interesting or handy to have a link in there to that member's collection or want list.

For me at least, it seems my shmax ID and my forum ID are the same, but I don't know if that is true for everyone.

I recently started getting back into trying to buy TFs on ebay. I know about some recent problems with pricing, being astronomical, etc for example the Kingdam F-15 debacle that Maz wrote about. But this is something else...

I lost on an auction of misc TF parts. My losing auctions is nothing new, I probably win less than 5% of what I bid on (because I'm notoriously cheap) but this is different.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/321004997425

Nothing in this auction strikes me as being particularly rare, so what's up with that price?

I was asked yesterday what the ballpark figure on my collection value was. I said that while I do have photos of everything in various places and my collection tracked here and what the value on the collection page says. I know for a fact that not all of my collection has a value assigned to it, and I would wager that its probably less than half.

Is there a way to find out what percentage of items entered into my collection has a value assigned? For example it could say: "$8511.30 (approx 30% valued)" or something?

Here is an example for Cliffjumper:
http://www.shmax.com/product_details/1729/cliffjumper_red

The price shown on the record is $18.0
The price on the actual auction is $18.00

Hopefully just a simple string length issue.  :D

For example in this user's collection:
http://www.shmax.com/view_collection/1/2563

The "Num. Collected" does not appear above the Soundwave statue.

Edit:
Here is a screenshot in case more items are added:

I was just modifying my collection record for here:
http://www.shmax.com/product_details/280/ultra_magnus_vs_skywarp

And I noticed there is no Ebay listings. I checked on ebay and there are 5 items up right now. The prices are ridiculous,  :o  but they are there.

Found on TFW2005:
http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-toy-discussion/677625-packaging-variant-prime-rid-vehicon.html

Seems one has a sticker OVER the warning box and the other doesn't. Everything else seems the same between the two pictures, even the assortment number. Probably not worth an extra DB entry.

I know this has been brought up before. BUT, just pointing this out:

Shmax fixed this example:
http://shmax.com/results/1?browse=0&searchterm=brave%20maximus

Found that no prices were showing up for either Brave Max releases, even though it has been consistantly been selling on ebay between $300-600+ for the past several months. Found that the search do-whacky was including the terms in the parentheses (sic) such as Brave and Plasma.

This post is a reminder for Shmax to look into later.

Some users have voiced their opinion about the strange prices concerning Kre-O sets. Example, sets that sell for way more MIB than MISB. To see for yourself, consider this browse category:
http://shmax.com/database/3141?browse=0

Look at the first Optimus Prime that comes up. You see this:

Quote
Sealed: $29.72  Opened: $144.03  Loose: $45.65

But this post isn't about why the prices are like that. Let's say you want to look at the price data for this particular figure, to see for yourself that maybe there was some weird anomaly the price-o-matic picked up.

http://shmax.com/product_details/8391/optimus_prime

The first thing you notice is that it takes quite a while to load this page due to the total amount of parts. After waiting this time (for my my browser froze until everything was done) you can quickly get to the price blocks on the right, but if you want to look at the graph, its way below all those parts.

Once you get there, you can see why the MIB price is so high, as there is not enough sales data for it. I can't tell but maybe 2 or 3 yellow dots on that graph. The first thing you'll notice is that $1000 valuation on the MISB, but it doesn't make the average sealed price that high because of the larger amount of sales data.

So this bug/problem is two-fold, but primarily has to do with the page taking so long to load due to the amount of parts, and that it may freeze the browser while reading the database for all this info.

As for how to fix it, I'm not sure.

The second thing is that some users may not know how to properly read the valuation chart or graph and realise why the prices seem so wrong. Maybe for that, if say there are less than 5 sales recorded for a particular condition, there may be a disclaimer or tooltip you can hover to see that the data may not be accurate due to low amount of sales data.

See in this locked thread, last post points to a thread that I doesn't seem to exist.

Anyone know where it is?

Hopefully later this year I'll be able to get some more details on the Hasbro UK G1 toys that were released in the mid-80s. A lot of information we already have access to for the Milton Bradley TFs is available here:
http://20thcenturytoycollector.com/wp-content/gallery/transformers-mb-collection-checklist/mb-collection-copy.png

The number before each "group" name in this list is the assortment number. There is no product code on the Milton Bradley TFs. All of these toys were released in 1985 and are the same as the US 1985 mainstream releases with exception of the Decepticon cassettes which were single packed.

Is there an easy way to clone a bunch of the 1985 US releases to make it easier than manually entering in every one again?
78
Is there a way to use the Search to find something in your own collection? Let's say i wanted to see how many Bumblebee toys I had. I did not see it under Advanced Search options.

I know the site just came back so there's no hurry on it. LMK if this is already possible and how I go about doing it.

Not sure what this is caused by. After I replied to this topic:
http://shmax.com/forum/index.php?topic=1485.0;topicseen

The page got dim and showed this MsgBox:

After clicking OK, it showed my post.

EDIT: After creating this topic, I got a MsgBox showing the URL of the image I posted, in addition to the signature one. Here is another (Bet I'll get more messages now) which I'll just put in the direct link instead of using img tags.

It would appear that after a reply to a topic is done, the forum sends me back to the subforum topic index, rather than back to the topic itself. Does this happen to others too? Its not an error per-se, but its just functionally different than any other forum I've used before.
