Video Games Discussion / Re: What are you playing now?
September 11, 2015, 06:31:49 PM

A week ago or so I started in on Metal Gear: The Phantom Menace. I was having a good time until about 40 minutes into in when I realized I didn't have the faintest idea who I was playing as. See, you play as a character with a shaggy 80s mullet, 5 o'clock shadow, and eyepatch, which I figured makes me Solid Snake, and is all I need to know. But it turns out that you are in fact a completely different character: "Big Boss". Not only that, but apparently I played this same character in at least one of the previous games, and never caught on to the difference. After poring through various wikis for the evening trying to get caught up, I finally admitted to myself that I haven't honestly been able to follow what has been going on in the Metal Gear storyline since the 80s. So, I decided to do what any sane person with no girlfriend or major responsibilities would do, which is to start over at the beginning and replay every damn game, including all the oddball titles that I missed the first time around.

I've already played through the original Metal Gear, and am now halfway through Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (not to be confused with Metal Gear Solid 2). The early games are crude by today's standard, but I'm still very much enjoying them.

You should be ashamed of yourself! How dare you compare Big Boss with Solid Snake! Solid does not wear an eyepatch, and no the Solid Eye does not count as one, plus Big Boss sports a full on beard on top of the 5 o'clock shadow. :P

If you are going to replay this for story's sake you should play them in this order:

MGS3: Snake Eater > MGS: Peace Walker > MGSV: Ground Zeroes > MGSV: Phantom Pain > Metal Gear > MG2: Solid Snake > Metal Gear Solid > MGS2: Sons of Liberty > MGS4: Guns of the Patriots

There are some other side-games like Portable Ops, which isn't bad...you can just get the cliff notes, and spin-offs that are totally skip-able... yes, I'm looking at you Revengeance!

Agreed. This will all make more sense in shmax 2.0 (I am working towards it daily, now)...

Soooooo....how about those toyline "brand" landing pages? ; )

I'll start setting up categories for him now. Give me an hour or two to get them in.

EDIT: OK, Lbsammills51, all the categories you listed are in the database. Feel free to start adding stuff. If you could also be sure to add parts to the product records you create, that'd be super!

SoS: Do you collect this line? I don't follow it beyond their Nintendo offerings.

I have quite a few S.H. Figuarts, but nothing too extensive.  We are going to need some photos for all these products we keep adding, perhaps some stock images.  So perhaps Bandai should be added to the "contributor" list because we can't just expect our faithful Spliff to take pictures of everything.  :)

Sounds to me like it should probably be treated like we do the Revoltech series in that it has figures from multiple properties, but is techinically "one" line.  So I vote for Funko > Pop! and go from there.

I am occasionally flying around Gotham City in Batman: Arkham Knight. I have a bad habit of focusing on the side missions before the main mission. Also playing LEGO Batman 3 with my daughter during the weekends mostly.

Help Us Build the Database / Re: Quakewave stands
May 22, 2015, 05:57:23 PM
Ah, I figured we would come to this at some point. Renderform, to me, toes the line between "garage kit" and a full-fledged 3rd Party company close enough to be in the database.  Plus, as it's already been mentioned, one of the requisites should at least be the fact that it's sold or has been sold through the usual online retailer channels.

So I believe we should leave these types of items out of the database for now, at least. I mean, I would love to add things like Trent's awesome Battle Beat items through Shapeways, SkyQuake's awesome IncrediPlugs used for CW to Energon figure interaction, heck even Cheetimus' insanely cool custom figures, but that's not technically what we have come to call "3rd Party", at least not yet. As 3D printing technology becomes more easily, affordable, and available to consumers, we are bound to reach a point where your average joe will be able to easily mass produce items such as these and sell it on a website set up through Squarespace or something similar.

Crap, I added the parts without knowing X-Ray was a model-kit type of figure. I'll fix that and let you go from there. Feel free to fix whatever mistake I've made.

Wow.

Thank you for bringing that up. That must have been some bug shenanigans that ended up moving the entire Saint Seiya toyline category into the Revoltech one.

Thanks again.

Help Us Build the Database / Re: FP LER-02 Cubrar
December 18, 2014, 06:49:22 PM
Hey Spliff,
I didn't see this thread until today. I can answer all those questions, or try to at least. Initially the rumor was that the retail release of Cubrar / Tekour would have both the black and red heads. Once the figure was released we learned just how cruel FPJ is by releasing both versions without any hints on which version you are getting. As you already mentioned, so far the "ginger" Cubrar seems to be the rarer of the two versions. I recall seeing the "hidden version" phrase to describe it being coined somewhere on the net. I actually created a new listing for the red-headed version, which I listed as the "variant" of the black-headed Cubrar. As for the Diaclone release of Cubrar, yes he did come with two heads and an awesome magnetic Diaclone Driver.

Hope that helps.

Help Us Build the Database / Re: TMNT
November 23, 2014, 02:40:22 PM

Neato! Now I can keep track of my five TMNT figures! :D

Just out of curiosity, why are the TMNT toys' forms called "Mutant [Animal]" instead of "[Animal]-man", like most of the other humanoid animal toys on the site?

For the Mutant Turtle form name, that was my mistake I created it because I had completely forgotten all about the possibility of a Turtle-Man form already existing. So that one is my fault. For the others, I used the already existing [Animal]-man forms and I just did a form name override to call Bebop, for example, a Mutant Warthog instead of Pig-man. Always go with established terms over name we created as a catch-all. That entire Humanoid category needs to be revised anyways. Hope that clears it up for you. :)

I am extremely happy to see TMNT on the site. Both my five yr old brother and I are fans of the series. Can't wait for for the other line categories to be added.

I added a few categories that should keep you busy for a bit. I'll add the rest as I see them getting filled up and added to the database. :)
