Bugs? On www.shmax.com? Ha ha, you kill me... / Re: [RESOLVED]IE9 layout bug (was Re: Signature Builder Thingy)

Awesome! I downloaded the preview version a couple of weeks ago and the final version yesterday. Shmax.com is working just fine on it (some other sites act a little funny in 10, but that's not your problem ).

IE10 is out? Is it not available for Windows 7? I had no idea it existed until now.

Internet Explorer v.9.0.8112.16421.
This is probably a browser issue. IE's also been giving me some display issues when I browse shmax.com where some information gets cut off towards the right side. There's also a gap on the right between the item data and the "fun facts"/"latest submissions" column on the right. Here's a pic to show what I mean (I couldn't upload this pic either, but that might be a size issue):
EDIT: Okay, I guess it did let me upload that pic. I got no indication that the pic got uploaded until I posted this reply.

What's the recommended image size for the background? And will the images that we upload be scaled if they're too big/small?

Help Us Build the Database / How to determine what's a variant and what isn't
December 26, 2012, 12:36:11 PM
I'm going through the database to try and get variants properly catalogued and I want to make sure I'm on the same page as the site admins. I think I have a general idea of what constitutes a variant, but I wanted to get a few things clarified:
1) Are variants generally "unannounced" (i.e. not appearing on packaging as separate toys)? Examples:
a) TF Animated Arcee is not advertised as being available in a "glossy" version and a "matte" version, so they are variants
b) TF Animated Family Mart Telephone figures are advertised as being available in color and pewter, so they are not variants.
Is that about right?
2) Are variants always contained within a series/subgroup? For example, there are two series of Mini-bots listed under Brazil that share characters/molds between them. Would series two variants point toward series one entries or would they only point to a variant within their own series?
Also, is there a guide to variants on the website that I've completely overlooked in case I have more questions?

Bugs? On www.shmax.com? Ha ha, you kill me... / [RESOLVED]"Variant description" appearing twice in titles.
December 22, 2012, 05:46:15 AM
When I view my collection, figures that have information under "Variant description" are displaying that information twice in the listing's main title. For example, Energon Optimus with faceplate is listed as "Optimus Prime (with faceplate) (with faceplate)". I clicked around and this appears to happen only when I see the entry in my "View Collection" list; the double-description doesn't appear anywhere else that I can find.

Okey dokey. I'll get to modifying my dates then.
For the record, I was typing the dates in; the calendar is working properly (greying out dates before the release date).
BTW, don't know if this is related to my date-fudging, but when I downloaded my collection, all the purchase dates were listed as 1970/01/01. I'll fix my dates and let you know if this changes when I download again.
EDIT: Nope, it didn't. Unless I missed a date somewhere.

Bugs? On www.shmax.com? Ha ha, you kill me... / [RESOLVED] ...pre-release dates being entered in "Date Bought"?
May 16, 2012, 06:55:53 AM
When I enter purchases into my collection, I tend to enter the day I paid for an item under "Date Bought" rather than the day I received the item or the day the item came out. Recently I noticed that my entries whose "Date Bought" date was earlier than the release date had the Date Bought blanked out (ex: release date is 12/30/2012, bought date entered as 6/30/2012).
Does entering a "Date Bought" date that's earlier than the listed release date cause a problem in the database? Should I stop doing that and just use the release date as the "Date Bought" for pre-orders?

Shutterbug Club / Re: KidTDragon's Excellent Light Box Adventure

Threadomancy!
My chick got me a light box for Xmas, and I just set it up and played with it for the first time. It wasn't ideal conditions (can't find my camera tripod, no upper light), but I thought I could still get in a couple of test shots and see where I can start making tweaks. The light box came with two 75 watt lamps with bulbs (presumably) to match. I used my Canon Powershot S50 (flash off, default settings otherwise). Here are the results:
And the rig, if you care:

Isn't that already there? I think it's called "Comments"...Oh, my bad. I was thinking it was called "notes", so "comments" must not have clicked with me when I saw it.

If I may add on to this request: would it be possible to add the option to import the "notes" section into an Excel sheet as well? I've taken to using that field to notate which bin a figure is stored in, and being able to import that into an Excel sheet would be most handy (for me, at least).

I was adding accessories for some newer listings, and after submitting about 20 or so entries the options to add, delete, or modify entries disappeared. I'm using IE9 on Win7 OS.
