If you are browsing in a specific folder and then use the search box, there is no indication that it is for that folder only. There used to be a drop-down which allowed for the user to select upwards the bread-crumb path. For instance:
http://shmax.com/products?q%5Bfilters%5D%5Btoyline%5D=3159&q%5Bfilters%5D%5Bkeywords%5D=optimus

Hmm. Well, I can either bring back the drop-down, or I can make the top search box always search from the top level. What do you think?
I think the top search should be site-wide. The folder structure on the left will help people filter. If you do make it site-wide remember to move the search entry field all of the way to the left. Now it appears there is space for the button even though it isn't there....

Okie-doke, you got it. I'll set that up later tonight. I must say, you're coming up with some pretty insightful input. What's your secret?
no sleep and four kids... you should give it a try!

I chose 4 sleep and no kids. So far so good! Okay, I've implemented your suggestion: search always takes it from the top. I've adjusted the padding, and increased the font size a bit (been meaning to do that forever). Thanks again!
thanks!
